The last of the professional truffle hunters stopped work in 1930. His name was Alfred Collins and he worked in the Winterslow area of Wiltshire. He hunted for truffles, mainly the Summer Truffle, Tuber aestivum, using two trained Spanish poodles. The truffles grew under beech trees at a depth of about 3 inches.
